Adelene Fletcher | Mail Order Art
Adelene Fletcher has been a professional artist for over 60 years. After graduating from the Manchester College of Art, Adelene worked in textiles, ultimately becoming a design consultant for a number of companies. It is her versatility that shows through her work, as adept with ink as watercolour and not afraid to experiment. Her work has gained much acclaim over the years, and has been hung in the Royal Institute of Painters, The Watercolour Society, and the Society of Botanical Artists, of whom Adelene is a member. She is also author of a number of guides for the aspiring floral watercolourist.
Works show her love of nature and her sense of humour too
Adelene Fletcher is influenced by the natural world around her, both flora and fauna, and also by her everyday life in her more domestic compositions. A frequent traveller, Adelene Fletcher is always inspired by her journeys and always has a sketchbook to hand. Her childhood in rural Surrey has ensured a long love of the natural world, whether it be her series of hare paintings, or her snapshots of feline life. Adelene Fletcher’s animal compositions are not simply just that. They have humour, as in her paintings of sheep, with titles such as Woolly Jumper, majesty, in The Stag and boundless movement and energy in Boxing Hare. Adelene uses different techniques to deliver different themes and is a master of them all. The attention to detail in her paintings of songbirds and floral subjects is in stark contrast to the bold fun of her sheep paintings, and her wild hares, beautifully presented pen and ink on resin panels, are very different to the lazy watercolour and ink cats lounging in their canvases staring out at the viewer with bright eyes.
Restful plant studies
Floral compositions range from details of specific flowers and plants on plain backgrounds as in her studies of ferns, to more in depth still-life compositions like the bright hues of Fruits of Summer. Colour and form are beautifully articulated in Adelene Fletcher’s work and she is able to present her work in so many different formats using so many different techniques that it is easy to see why her work is so popular.
