Janice McGloine | Mail Order Art
Drawing has always played a big part of Janice McGloine’s life, as a child Janice spent many hours sketching members of her family and the pet dog and although Janice’s parents wanted her to go to art school, she didn’t consider making a career out of it and instead, had a variety of uninspiring jobs as a result. It wasn’t until Janice married and had children that she completed an A level in art & design at night school, this made her realise just how much Janice loved art. Janice McGloine’s career began in 1993 painting commissioned portraits which captured character and personality in pastel.
In 2007, Janice McGloine fulfilled a long held dream and moved to live and work by the coast in Cumbria and the change in scenery inspired her greatly. “I am greatly inspired by this area of outstanding natural beauty and my painting has changed considerably in the short time I have been here. The coastline and woodlands are constantly changing providing lots of inspiration.” Janice McGloine’s favourite medium has always been soft pastels and her work quite realistic, but Janice now also enjoys experimenting with acrylic and mixed media and finds this to be challenging and the results exciting.
Janice McGloine has always had a love of architecture and this has inspired her to paint in a distinctly quirky style. Janice McGloine was born in a Lancashire mill town where terraced houses are all identical. She noticed that in rural and coastal areas, the rows frequently include buildings of different periods and sizes, and finds this intriguing and loves to accentuate their individuality and add character.
