John Taylor

John Taylor is a self-taught artist who became a full-time painter later in life as he was never encouraged at a young age, despite recognition from his school’s art department. Although he always had a flair for art, John initially followed a career path in mechanics; it was his sketches of work colleagues and their positive responses to his work that helped him decide to pursue his art further. His painting career began designing posters, book covers and greetings cards as well as selling work through galleries and on commission. He is now a well regarded painter of the natural world and won the 2002 award for best oil painting at the Society of Equestrian Artists at Christies, London.

John Taylor is adept at painting number of subjects with his oils creating bright colours and incredible detail. One of his most popular works is his series of stag paintings, taking this Victorian favourite into a completely new dimension. The majestic beast taking centre stage has been produced in a number of different formats, all highlighting John’s attention to detail and his ability to convey such power and majesty in his composition with the proud stag rearing out of the canvas. All of John’s animal compositions go beyond simply showing an animal in its natural habitat but shows real character in its subjects.

John Taylor's floral work is crisp and colourful, without losing any of the detail of the petals, stamens or stems surrounded by wonderfully abstract colours to highlight the flowers. These pieces, such as Blazing Poppies would make a wonderful theme for a home with two or three piece in a series, as well as beautiful paintings in their own right. John is also a master of live action paintings. Riding The Waves shows a yacht crashing through the sea. The blend of colourful yacht and crew amongst the wash of the sea creates an almost abstract feel with wonderful movement and power. Standing in front of this piece, you almost expect to get splashed by the waves which are drenching the crew!

John Taylor's work is available in a number of different formats and includes hand-finished work from the artist himself. With a broad range of subjects, and collections of smaller prints, John’s work would be at home in many settings.
