Sarah Pye | Mail Order Art
Sarah Pye is an acrylic artist based in Henley-on-Thames. Sarah has a passion for taking the natural world and giving it a unique twist with her wonderful impressionist style. Her abstract approach to the natural world brings her compositions to life with layered paint creating depth, vibrancy and drawing attention to what you can and can’t see. Sarah predominantly paints landscapes, animal portraiture and composed scenes.
Abstract animals that capture their essence
Sarah Pye's works intuitively and boldly from both her own experiences, but also with a large amount of artistic imagination. Her hare and kingfisher paintings are figurative and detailed, and yet they also have an abstract feel with elongated features and real characterisation. The way in which Sarah layers the acrylic paint and, where there is little or no paint at all, creates a sense of mystery and calls on the viewer to use their imagination. The fact that these paintings are in print form adds to the depth as they are do not have the three-dimensional aspect of acrylic, but have been beautifully reproduced.
Landscapes to draw you in
Sarah Pye’s landscapes are reminiscent of the pointillist style of the Impressionists, with a deep and rich choice of palette. Cherry Whisper is a fantasy landscape of purple and blue whilst Lemon and Lime’s abstract style is a spring or summer morning. The scenes which include animal characters transport the viewer to a scene from classical literature and would be as at home as an illustration as it does on a canvas. Look at how all the animal characters in Woodland Scene are gazing out of the canvas, and how they all have their own space within the composition; these are humanised animals, painted in their natural surroundings, but existing outside of them. Flight is a wonderfully powerful piece with a tempestuous sky framing the gulls as they all take wing perhaps as a storm is about to hit, or the crashing thunder of the sea.
Sarah Pye’s work is available in a number formats and sizes with prices to suit most budgets. Her work would suit the majority of settings and could easily form the centrepiece of a home and a definite conversation piece. There is always something new to see in a piece of Sarah’s work and the vigour and enthusiasm in the work will give pleasure for years to come.
